Young family needs support

Hickling family

Dave Hickling is a proud grandfather who is thrilled to announce the arrival of the newest member of the family: Colton John Silas Hickling.

The baby boy was born July 30 at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster to Dave’s daughter-in-law and son, Christina Pokorny and Justin Hickling.

It’s been a long and difficult journey to get to this point. Tina, 25, has been on the coast since June, after she began bleeding during her pregnancy and doctors discovered amniotic fluid in the blood.

Meanwhile, her husband, Justin, 28, has been struggling to care for the couple’s two young sons, Leland, four, and Hunter, two,  back home in Enderby.

Disabled and on a pension, Dave does what he can, but he has been asking for help from the community for his son, daughter-in-law and grandsons.

“The travelling back and forth has been really tough and because Justin doesn’t drive, he needs help with travel expenses,” said Dave. “And he’s also been needing help with childcare.”

Not due until September, Colton weighed in at 4.8 pounds and mother and child are both doing well, but Dave said help is still needed for the family.

Donations can be made at the Enderby District Credit Union to the Hickling Fund, account number 9142-1.

Donations can also be sent to Ashton Creek Christian Fellowship, 935 Mabel Lake Rd., Enderby, B.C., V0E 1V5. If a receipt is required, please call George Rands at 250-838-6690 or include your name and address with your donation, and one will be mailed to you.

“I want people to know that all donations go into the church account and they are released only when we present receipts for expenses,” said Dave, adding that the family sends a huge thank-you to all who have shown their kindness and support during this difficult journey.”
