The environment took centre stage Monday night at Powerhouse Theatre as the City of Vernon and Regional District of the North Okanagan co-hosted the awards night for the 2012 Sustainability and Environmental Leadership Awards.

The event also included the Inquisitive Clips Film Competition, an environmentally-themed short film competition, with this year’s  theme being, “Water in Your Backyard – Why is Water Important to You?”

Claiming the Sun FM Sun Screen People’s Choice Award was Jaxon and Stirling Peters’ film called Water Conservation.

Kelsey Thompson and Natalie Lussin’s exploration of the importance of water, named Conserve it, Protect it, Respect it, was awarded first place, and Water – The Essential Element by Katie Maryschuk was runner-up.
