Young writers invited to enter annual contest

The KidsWrite Young Writers Contest is seeking entries from students ages five to 18.

If you’re a student between the ages of five to 18 and you enjoy writing, the KidsWrite Young Writers Contest is looking for you.

The fifth annual contest is open to students from throughout the North Okanagan and Vernon School Districts.

“Last year, we received more than 200 entries,” said Karen Bissenden, contest coordinator. “And the contest continues to grow. Last year, from the four age categories, 24 young writers received prizes for their stories and poems.”

Hosted by the Shuswap Association of Writers, the prizes are awarded on May 26 at the Word on the Lake Festival for readers and writers, the new name of the Shuswap Writers Festival.

“Everyone is invited to hear the work selected by judges,” said Bissenden. “The mandate of the association is to support reading and writing, and those who see the faces of the students as they read know that the mandate has been met.”

The contest is open to students ages five to 18 in School Districts 83 and 22. Entries should be postmarked April 5, 2012.

“Enter your creative short stories and poetry for prizes and fame. You are the authors of the future.”

There is no cost to enter, but there are cash prizes to be won.
