Vernon theatre group embraces diversity with powerful musical

It's billed as a 'vibrant, empowering musical, celebrating pride and self-expression.'

This Is Me! is the latest offering from Vernon's Big Apple Productions (in its 14th year), and is the perfect project for Pride Month.

"There's poignant story-telling and electrifying song-and-dance numbers," said Big Apple founder Melina Schein. "At Big Apple Productions, we believe in highlighting the beauty of our differences and the strength of our unity. We live and work in a powerful, inclusive space where stories of various cultures, identities and experiences are shared and celebrated.

"So, we thought, "why not create a musical about it?

The show features barn-burning numbers from The Greatest Showman, Rent, La Cage aux Folles, Kinky Boots, The Book of Mormon, the Producers, and many more.

"Join us as we celebrate our human diversity and share a message of acceptance and pride," said Schein.

This Is Me! runs Wednesday, June 12 to Saturday, June 15, with nightly shows at 7 the Powerhouse Theatre. There is a matinee showing at 2 p.m. June 15.
