UPDATE: Boil water notice rescinded for Rise area of Vernon

The notice is in effect for Okanagan Hills Boulevard, Silversage Place, Silversage Lookout Court, Balsam Court and 8800 Rising View Way

UPDATE Jan. 14:

A drinking water advisory for residents in the The Rise area has ended.

Bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system, the RDNO advises.

ORIGINAL Jan.9:

Residents in The Rise area of Vernon are under a drinking water advisory.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, has issued a precautionary boil water notice Thursday for Greater Vernon Water customers on Okanagan Hills Boulevard, Silversage Place, Silversage Lookout Court, Balsam Court and 8800 Rising View Way.

The boil water notice will be in effect until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

An equipment malfunction resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity in the area, the RDNO said in Jan. 9. Power has since been restored and flushing to improve the water quality is being completed.

When the water service resumes, properties in the area may notice reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water and/or air. They are advised to run a cold water tap until until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

While the level of service and treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained, customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.

When the notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website and sent to email subscribers

Questions can be directed to the RDNO utilities department at 250-550-3700.

See the map in the above photo gallery for the area under the boil water notice.
