UPDATE Aug. 15:
Some Vernon residents can safely drink from the taps again.
The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), in conjunction with Interior Health, has rescinded the boil water notice issued on Aug. 7 to some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water on 18th Avenue, as well as Pottery Rd between 15th Street and Highway 6.
Bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the system.
ORIGINAL Aug. 7:
The Regional District of North Okanagan, in conjunction with Interior Health, is advising that some Greater Vernon Water customers are on a boil water notice.
Residents in the areas of Pottery Road between 15th Street and Highway 6 and the 18th Avenue cul-de-sac west of 15th Street are on a precautionary boil water notice until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.
The RDNO says two ruptures of the water main in this area resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity. As a result, the RDNO is issuing the boil water notice to affected areas while flushing and sampling the water main to ensure the safety of the water system.
Crews were currently on-site repairing the breaks Wednesday.
The RDNO's level of water service and treatment has been maintained, however people in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.
After the repairs are complete, residents in the affected area may notice reduced water pressure, water discolouration, and/or air in the water. They are advised to run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.
When the notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website.
Questions can be directed to the RDNO utilities department at 250-550-3700.
