'A black tornado': Fire extinguished near Kalamalka Lake

Fire at Kalamalka Road train bridge on July 12

Smoke could be seen rising above Coldstream on Friday evening near the train bridge that runs over Kalamalka Road.

The blaze, which appears to have been concentrated to a pile of railway ties near the train-tracks, started at approximately 7:15 p.m. on July 12.

Police blocked traffic on Collegeway Road as fire crews extinguished the blaze.

Witnesses Carter Murphy and Ryder Emmerton, both 13 years old, saw what they described as a "black tornado," of smoke rising from the pile of railway ties as it burned.
