A power pole reportedly caught fire near Westside Road, causing a power outage early Saturday morning, Aug. 17, 2024.

Power has been knocked out for hundreds of residents in the Westside Road area due to a fire early Saturday morning.

According to BC Hydro's outage list, power is out for 340 residents north of Westside Road, south of Naswhito Road and east of Bouleau Lake Road. The cause of the outage is listed as a fire.

Power has been off since 12:42 a.m. Aug. 17. Crews are currently on site, and power is expected to be restored by noon.

Atlyn Becker posted on Facebook that a power pole caught fire about an hour after the outage, around 2 a.m.

"The flames were visible," Becker wrote. "The fire trucks were looking for spot fires with their search light. Thank mother nature and higher powers for the rain on Friday. It could have been a disaster for Westshore Estates."

Becker wrote that the power pole was near the entrance of Pinecrest Road.
