A former Vernon doctor was sentenced Wednesday to over five years jail time in a case involving assault and sexual assault.
Peter Inkpen appeared at the Vernon Law Courts July 24, where a judge sentenced him to 1,890 days of jail for one count of assault. Because he was credited with 74 days for the time he'd already spent in custody, he has 1,816 days, or just under five years, left to serve behind bars.
Inkpen was also sentenced on two counts of sexual assault. He received three months jail time on each of the counts, which will be served consecutively to each other and to the assault charge.
The court also imposed a DNA order, a 10-year-firearms ban and a $200 victim fine surcharge for each of the counts.
While Inkpen received his sentences on Wednesday, his trial has not concluded and he will be back in court Aug. 15, according to Damienne Darby, communications counsel with the BC Prosecution Service.
Inkpen was facing six charges of sexual assault as of March 2024.
