Current Lumby Mayor Kevin Acton was officially selected as B.C. United’s candidate for the new Vernon-Lumby riding.
Acton defeated Dauna Kennedy as party members voted between the two on Saturday. Nov. 4, which took place at the Schubert Centre from 2-6 p.m. Voting totals were not released.
B.C. United leader Kevin Falcon is expected to be in the Vernon area on Tuesday, Nov. 14 to meet with Acton.

Kennedy is the current executive director of the Vernon Public Art Gallery, while Acton has been the Mayor of Lumby since 2009 and is also the chair of the Regional District of North Okanagan.
Acton mentioned on his social media pages how proud he was to see a large turnout at the voting booth.
” Yesterday, 95 per cent of the people that committed to support me showed up and the other 5 per cent were out of town or otherwise unable to be there but let us know,” he said. “Almost 100 per cent engagement! I can not thank you all enough, you are amazing, wonderful and caring people, I appreciate each and everyone of you.”
The 2024 B.C. Provincial Election will take place on October 19. The Vernon-Lumby riding is new for the upcoming election. Harwinder Sandhu is the current MLA for the Vernon-Monashee riding. The Monashee area is now under the Kootenay-Monashee riding, whose present MLA is Katrine Conroy, under Kootenay-West.
