Little change to Sitkum wildfire near Cherryville

The wildfire burning for nearly three weeks remains out of control near Sugar Lake.

The Sitkum Creek blaze, discovered on July 18, remains 1,261.9 hectares in size.

"Today, Aug. 6, crews are continuing to work on implementing a 50 foot black line as well as conducting danger tree assessing and falling along the west flank," the BC Wildfire Service reports.

It is burning east of the lake, north of Cherryville.

Existing evacuation orders and alerts remain unchanged.

The order is in place for all lands east of Sugar Lake, from the southern end to the northern tip, and from the east shore to a line north-south through Initiative Peak.

Meanwhile the Outlet Creek Forest Service Road wildfire, southeast of Sitkum, is now held at 21 hectares.
