New Vernon roundabout construction begins

Prelim construction prompts single-lane traffic at Pleasant Valley Road and 39th Ave.

Ground is set to break for the newest roundabout in Vernon.

Crews from the city will start preliminary construction for the new roundabout, located at Pleasant Valley Road and 39th Avenue.

Work of pole relocation begins on Monday, Feb. 10, continuing through Friday, Feb. 21. This work is necessary to accommodate the upcoming roundabout construction, which is tabbed for March.

During pole relocation work, single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect.

Drivers are expected to drive cautiously through the construction zone, and give extra space to roadside workers. Minor delays are to be expected.

"Once the project is complete in fall 2025, the community will benefit from a roundabout, new street lighting, a pedestrian-controlled lighted crosswalk, anti-skid pavement to address downhill speeds and drainage and sanitary improvements," said city staff.

"Pedestrians should always use crosswalks, follow traffic signals, and wear reflective clothing, especially in low-light conditions."

When completed, the roundabout will be the third in a seven-block radius along Pleasant Valley Road, joining ones at 32nd and 35th Avenues.
