North Okanagan sports groups score B.C. funds

From football to ski clubs, volleyball and sailing - thousands of grants issued

The province has pitched in some significant supports for local sports.

MLA Harwinder Sandhu says grants for local not-for-profit organizations will support sports organizations so that people can stay active and healthy in Vernon-Monashee.

“For people of all ages, sports are a great way to stay active and healthy,” said Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee. “By providing funding, sports organizations can continue to grow and serve even more people in our community.”

Over $572,000 in funding for more than 20 organizations in Vernon-Monashee is part of the $25 million in Community Gaming Grants that will be shared among 736 organizations that deliver sports programs or services across B.C. that will improve the quality of life in their communities.

Some of the organizations receiving funding include:

  • Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association $75,000

  • Cross Country BC $98,800 

  • North Okanagan Youth Soccer Association $65,000 

  •  Vernon Curling and Athletic Club $52,000

  • Armstrong/Enderby Skating Club $24,000

  • Armstrong & District Curling Club $18,350

  • Enderby & District Curling Club $19,500

  • North Okanagan Minor Hockey Association $25,500

  • Lumby & District Minor Amateur Hockey Association $30,700

  • Lumby Swim Club $9,000

  • Lumby & District Figure Skating Club $10,000

  • Vernon Speedskating Club $1,700

  • Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club $27,500

  • North Okanagan Sailing Association $17,500

  • Vernon Paddling Centre Society $4,700

  • Okanagan Alpine Ski Association $4,000

  • Vernon Ski Club Community $35,000

  • Vernon Baseball Association $21,000

  • Kokanee Swim Club $28,500

  • Vernon Pickleball Association $2,000

  • Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club $18,500

  • Greater Vernon Ringette Association $24,500

  • Vernon Minor Fastball Association $3,600

  • Sky Volleyball Club $43,000

The Community Gaming Grants Program distributes up to $140 million worth of grants annually to not-for-profit organizations across British Columbia that improve and enrich the lives of people and communities. These include sports, arts, environmental, quality of life, and health and safety organizations. 

These grants help approximately 5,000 organizations to deliver ongoing programs and services in their communities.
