A Vernon sexual assault trial has been delayed.
Former Vernon chiropractor Murray Kievit was on trial at the Vernon Law Courts this week, facing two counts of sexual assault.
The charges are based on allegations made by one of Kievit's former patients, who alleges he sexually assaulted her during treatment on Dec. 7 and 9, 2021.
The trial began Tuesday with the complainant — who can't be named due ot a publication ban — taking the stand.
However, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) confirms that the trial has hit a snag.
Damienne Darby, communications counsel for the BCPS, said defence counsel Michael Klein requested an adjournment mid-trial, in the middle of a cross-examination of an expert witness. Justice David Ruse granted the adjournment.
The matter will return to court on Aug. 28 to schedule a date for the continuation of the trial.
At the time of the alleged offences, which have yet to be proven in court, Kievit was working as a chiropractor in Vernon at White House Wellness Centre, which he founded in 2006. Last summer, amid the sexual assault allegations, Kievit had his registration permanently cancelled by the College of Chiropractors of B.C.
