The Township of Spallumcheen will be chipping away at residents' discarded prunings and tree branches.
Starting Monday, March 31, the township's public works department will go property to property in neighbourhoods to chip the specific refuse.
"This is not a tree removal service, and is designed to assist with prunings and branches only," said the township.
The public works crews will be in Stepping Stones subdivision March 31 and April 1; Udy Subdivision April 1 and 2; and in McLeod Subdivision April 3-4.
In order to receive this service, the township requests of residents:
• Neatly stack the material adjacent to the roadway with the butt ends of the material facing the street (approximately three feet from the edge of pavement);
• Ensure that the material does not exceed four inches in diameter;
• Do not include any material containing nails or other metal components;
• Do not tie the material with wire;
• No stumps;
• No material contaminated with dirt.
The township also requests no tangled piles or excessive volumes of more than three metres long by three metres wide by one-and-a-half metres high. This may result in material being left.
A maximum chipping time of 20 minutes per lot will be followed.
Property owners can hire a chipper or haul to the landfill any excessive materials. You can contact the Regional District of North Okanagan at 250-550-3700 to find what alternate disposal methods are available.
"Please respect the environment and your neighbours and do not burn any unwanted materials," the township urges.
If you would like to keep the chips, advise the township in advance.
