UPDATE: Highway 97 open following another crash between Kamloops and Vernon

Incident near Monte Creek had road closed Monday morning, Jan. 22, detour via Barnhartvale

UPDATE: MONDAY, JAN. 22, 12:56 P.M.: DriveBC says the highway is open again in both directions, effective 12:30 p.m.


Highway 97 is closed in both directions east of Monte Creek.

DriveBC reports a vehicle incident between Barnhartvale and Duck Range roads Monday morning around 9 a.m.

A detour is in effect via Barnhartvale Road, Highway 1, Highway 97A and Highway 97B.

Further updates will be posted as they become available.

This is at least the third crash in a week on the stretch of highway between Vernon and Kamloops.

The most tragic took place Jan. 16, where four people were killed near Monte Lake.
