Amid sweltering temperatures, city of Vernon workers will be getting to work early to beat the heat.
In response to the rise of day-time temperatures throughout the region, operations teams and city contractors will be temporarily adjusting their outside work hours.
"This adjustment is required to maintain services and protect employee health," the city said in a release Tuesday afternoon.
That means the noise of various machinery may be noticeable earlier during the heat wave.
Starting Wednesday, July 10, residents may hear work activity taking place before the usual 7 a.m. start, such as grass cutting in parks, road repairs and utility works.
The adjustment to hours is temporary and the city said it will make efforts to minimize the impact to the public during the adjustment.
"The city thanks everyone for their patience and understanding during this temporary operational change."
