The Independence Day of Ukraine takes place later this month, and an event in Vernon will provide the chance for people to celebrate Ukrainian culture while showing solidarity for the country amid its ongoing war with Russia.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress Thompson Okanagan Branch and the Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble are hosting a barbecue to commemorate Ukrainian Independence Day on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The free event will be held at Kin Beach in Vernon at 4 p.m., and everyone is welcome to attend.

People can register for the event with the number of people who will attend by emailing ucctobranch@gmail.com, sadok@shaw.ca or by calling 250-309-6948.

Organizer Andrea Malysh thanked Community Foundation North Okanagan and the Neighbourhood Small Grants program for helping to make the event possible.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress has been hosting events demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine ever since the country was invaded by Russia on Feb. 24, 2022.
