Vernon search and rescue save ATV rider

The man was injured riding near the Haddo Lake area

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) had to make a late night extraction of an ATV rider on Saturday (Oct. 7).

A man was riding with a friend in the backcountry near Haddo Lake, located east of Lake Country. He was thrown off his ATV and due to the nature of the injuries, was forced to call for help.

VSAR medics were able to locate the rider, and carefully loaded him into a stretcher.

“With a combination of ATV towing and manual stretcher carries, we were able transport our subject to the Forest Service Road and into the care of paramedics,” a release stated.

The injured man and his friend were well prepared and built a fire for warmth while they waited.

VSAR is reminding those who go out late to be prepared for cooler temperatures. Information regarding their 10 essentials to take with you can be found at adventuresmart.ca.
