Vernon Winter Carnival winds down with Family Fun Park

Saturday's Fun Park was the final free event of the 65th annual Vernon Winter Carnival

The 65th annual Vernon Winter Carnival is almost at an end, and the Family Fun Park ensured the festivities went out with a bang.

The Family Fun Park was held at BX Elementary School Saturday, Feb. 15, the second-to-last day of the Carnival, and featured games and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Among the activities were Laing Roofing's massive human fussball table, a Wheel of Fortune raffle where people could spin to win prizes, ice carving with Tyler Welfing of CarveWel Creations, a snowflake drop raffle where 2,000 snowflakes were dropped off the side of a boom lift for a chance at a $5,000 Okanagan Experience prize, fireworks over the BX fire hall at 7 p.m., and laser light show performances by Nathan Paquin. Pure Country Radio was in on the fun, and there were also a number of food trucks for guests to choose from.

The event went from 2-8 p.m. and was well attended, according to Winter Carnival executive director Lisa Fenyedi.

"Typically for Family Fun Park we don't have a massive rush at the beginning, but we had families ready to go at 1:30 p.m. waiting for us to open up," she said.

Though there are some events still to come on Sunday, The Fun Park was the final free event put on by this year's Winter Carnival. The event served as a sendoff for what has been a highly successful, fun-filled nine days of Carnival activities.

"It's been an awesome celebration, and truly we love how much of the community embraces Carnival every single year. Our board of directors puts their heart and soul into making this happen for everybody, and just the amount of positive feedback that has come back to the board this year on all of our events, including a new route for our parade, changes to some of our other events — it's really been heartwarming to see that come back from the community," Fenyedi said.

Winter Carnival officially wraps up Sunday. For more information on remaining events, visit vernonwintercarnival.com
