A new Downtown Vernon Association Event, Frostival, takes place on 30th Avenue Friday, Nov. 29, 2024.

The Downtown Vernon Association has created a new free event to mark the holiday season early.

At the end of this month, people will get to experience the magic of the holidays with Frostival, a street festival that will be jam-packed with free music, vendors, holiday characters, oversized decor, photo op areas and festive activities for the whole family.

There will also be a few extra surprises.

Buildings and the streets of the four-block festival on 30th Avenue will be lit up between 30th and 34th streets, from The Kal to Scattered Goods. People can shop local and check items off their Christmas list early from many businesses and services.

Frostival will take place Friday, Nov. 29 from 4-8 p.m.

The roads used for the event will be closed early for set-up, but the DVA received a free parking day from the city so all meters will be inactive that day.

Food trucks, characters, fun decor, music, fire dancers, DJs, carollers, activities and some of Santa's elves will be part of the festival. There will also be numerous spots for photos.

A certain jolly old fellow will also make a grand entrance around 6 p.m.

The 3400 block of 30th Avenue will be home to a main stage for party bands, and businesses are decking their halls with items to help people stuff their stockings and fill their bellies.

Pets are permitted to join the family for a day of fun.

Frostival is taking place the day before the DVA kicks off its Christmas Saturdays. Each Saturday leading up to Christmas (Nov. 30, Dec. 7, 14, 21) there will be free photos with Santa, elves, carollers, musicians, free parking and plenty of Christmas shopping opportunities.

On Dec.7, the DVA is hosting a Free Hot Chocolate Challenge.

Many downtown businesses will also be hosting Shop Late 'Til Eight Thursdays in December as well.

Another free parking day is also scheduled for Dec. 24 for those last-minute shoppers.

Folllow the DVA on social media for more updates.
