The City of Vernon says scheduled maintenance on the Water Reclamation Centre, set to start Nov. 12, may increase odour levels around the plant.

With maintenance work on Vernon's Water Reclamation Centre (VWRC) set to begin Nov. 12, residents and visitors near the centre are being advised the numbers on the smell-o-meter may rise.

Starting as early as Tuesday, crews will begin maintenance work on components of the facility.

As a result, residents and passersby may potentially notice an odour increase.

The scheduled work is expected to be completed by Nov. 29, and is not expected to affect the daily operations at the VWRC.

"All efforts will be made to reduce odours leaving the site, however, some odour transfer may be unavoidable," said the city in a release. "The city appreciates everyone’s understanding while this work is being completed."
