A shiny new scoreboard will soon be entrenched in the Greater Vernon Athletics Patk (GVAP).

At the committee of the whole meeting on Monday, Nov. 6, Vernon council approved funding of $180,000 for a scoreboard at the park.

“This is something that we were doing a 50/50 split hoping to get grant funding,” said Mayor Victor Cumming. “We are unable to get the grant funding, but the Athletic Park really needs a scoreboard and the users have been on this for a long time.”

The scoreboard is expected to be purchased and utilized in 2024.

The GVAP was built in 2015 at a cost of $8.588 million, after a successful 2013 referendum. The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) borrowed $7.53 million to construct the park at Okanagan College.
