Vernon golfers bag provincial cash

Predator Ridge pros win cash at Whistler event

Vernon's Kyla Inaba from Predator Ridge Resort finished alone in third place at the 36-hole PGA of BC Women's Golf Championship in Whistler.

Predator Ridge pros were in the top-10 and the money at the 2024 PGA of BC Seniors' and Women's championships at Nicklaus North Golf Course in Whistler.

Kyla Inaba shot a final round even-par 71 to finish alone in third place at the 36-hole women's championship. She ended up at 5-over 147, eight shots behind the winner, Taylor Kim of the Beach Grove Golf Club in Delta. Inaba won $750. Kim was the only woman in the field under par, shooting 67-72 to finish at 3-under. She collected $1,500. 

Esther Lee of Mayfair Lakes in Richmond was second at +4, winning $1,000.

Kendra Jones-Munk of the Vernon Golf and Country Club finished 11th, with a round of 80-78. She won $100.

Jessica Claggett from West Kelowna's Two Eagles Golf Course and Academy was fifth at +10 to earn $550.

Claggett's father is Dean Claggett, a teaching pro at Vernon's Predator Ridge Resort who finished in a tie for seventh place at the PGA of BC's Seniors' Championship.

Father Claggett had rounds of 72-75 to finish at five-over, tied with Fraser Mulholland of the Vancouver Golf Tour (71-76). Each pocketed $575. Bryn Parry of the Seymour Creek Golf Club in North Vancouver won the title with consecutive 2-under 69 rounds and earn $2,300. Parry was one shot better than Brett Burgeson of the Breaking Par Golf Academy in Kamloops ($1,500).

Keith Vandenbrink of the Vernon Golf Club won $145 after finishing in a three-way tie for 19th place. Vandenbrink had rounds of 78-76.

Former Predator Ridge pro Cory Draper of the Capilano Golf Club in West Vancouver finished 22nd (75-80, $125).

Dean Kuntz from the Pitt Meadows Golf Club was out of the money following rounds of 84-87. Vernon hockey fans will remember Kuntz as the goalie that helped lead the Vernon Lakers to its first Centennial Cup Canadian Junior A Hockey Championship in 1990.
