The Fall Classic gets underway in a heat wave.
The American League champion Houston Astros visit the National League pennant winners, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in Game 1 of the best-of-seven World Series.
Temperatures are expected to reach 102 degrees Fahrenheit in L.A. today. First pitch is scheduled for 5:09 p.m. Pacific Time.
The Astros are making their second appearance in the World Series. They were swept in 2005 by the Chicago White Sox when Houston was a member of the National League. They were moved to the American League in 2013.
The Dodgers have won the World Series six times, the last coming in 1988.
Los Angeles is the early favourite.
The two teams did not face each other in regular season interleague play.
Neither team has lost a home game in this year’s playoffs.
