B.C. man safe after night lost north of Vernon

VERNON, B.C. — A missing snow biker from Vernon, B.C., has been found safe and well after spending the night stuck in the Shuswap backcountry.

Vernon Search and Rescue spokesman Leigh Pearson says the man became separated from three other companions Monday in an area around Mara Lake, about 65 kilometres northeast of Vernon.

The man was located just after first light Tuesday and Vernon Search and Rescue members used their helicopter winch team to lift him out of a steep canyon.

Pearson says crews searched all night.

He says the unnamed snow biker was taken to a clinic at Silver Star resort for a check-up, but is believed to be fine.

Person says the man will have to hire his own private helicopter to get his machine out of the backcountry. (CKIZ)
