A pair of wildfires sparked north of Revelstoke over the weekend, but BC Wildfire service are working on the blazes.
Big Mouth Creek and Encampment creek were the two most recent wildfire locations in the Southeast Fire Centre. The two fires started over the weekend with BC Wildfire service suspecting lightning as the source of ignition.
Crews were at the scene of the Big Mouth Creek fire today (July 5). Working to combat the blaze, the Southeast Fire Centre said the crew managed to contain the 3.6 hectare fire this afternoon by removing danger trees, fuel sources, and establishing a containment ring around the fire.
Now that the blaze is contained, they don’t expect the fire to grow any further.
The Encampment Creek fire is still burning ‘out of control’, and is less than a hectare in size, according to the Southeast Fire Centre.

A crew is enroute to the Encampment Creek wildfire, which is located on an island on Kimbasket Lake. Being on an island, the fire is not at risk to any public infrastructure, but it does present a logistical challenge for getting to and combatting the fire, according to the Southeast Fire Centre.
Once the crew gets to the blaze later today, the Southeast Fire Centre said they will have to be careful as they work to contain the fire of large danger trees in the area. The crew will be on site by the end of the day and will continue their efforts tomorrow morning (July 6).
