Accident forces power pole on to vehicle

RCMP officers responded to a report of the accident at 8:45 p.m. Sunday on Armstrong's Okanagan Street.

A single-vehicle accident in Armstrong resulted in problems for the motorist and damage to a hydro pole.

RCMP officers responded to a report of the accident at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of Okanagan Street.

“The crash caused the hydro pole to come down on the vehicle,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “When our officers arrived the vehicle was still running and the pole was laying across the box of the Dodge Ram truck.”

The driver was being checked out by ambulance attendants. He was not injured in the crash so was not transported to hospital.

Officers, though, did notice a strong odour of liquor on the driver and read the breath demands to him.

The 24-year-old man provided breath samples which police say came back as more than twice the legal limit.

The man was released from custody on a promise to appear in court in March.
