An air quality service isn't likely to proceed in the North Okanagan due to a lake of interest.

More jurisdictions have walked away from a collective approach to pollution.

Enderby and Lumby decided Monday not to join an air quality service proposed by the Regional District of North Okanagan.

“We have looked at their data and used a lot of it,” said Greg McCune, Enderby mayor, adding that steps have already been taken to tackle pollution.

“We know dust on the roads is an issue and we are working on that, and we know smoke is an issue and we are taking action on that. We have reduced the amount of burning.”

In Lumby, there was concern that not all jurisdictions would pay the bill for the function.

“If there isn’t a buy-in from the North Okanagan region then there isn’t much point,” said Coun. Nick Hodge.

Coldstream supports the regional service but opposition has come from Spallumcheen, Armstrong and the five electoral areas.

RDNO is still waiting to hear from Vernon on possible participation.
