All-candidates forums on election agenda

Okanagan-Shuswap residents will have a chance to hear from those seeking their support in the federal election.

All-candidates forums are scheduled for Armstrong, Lumby and Vernon.

The Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce will host a forum at Glad Tidings Church hall April 20 at 7:30 a.m.

“A business-for-breakfast networking event, the morning will begin with a brief statement from candidates seeking the position of member of Parliament for Okanagan Shuswap,” said Patti Noonan, chamber manager.

“This will be followed by questions from the floor and then a brief closing statement from each candidate.”

Noonan hopes the event will increase public awareness about the May 2 election.

A light breakfast will be provided by donation.

The Lumby Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a forum for April 20 at 7 p.m. at the  White Valley Community Centre.

On April 26, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce will hold a breakfast forum at the Schubert Centre at 7:15 a.m.

“All four candidates have confirmed their attendance,” said Kim Bourke, events co-ordinator.

To attend, register with the Greater Vernon chamber by April 21 at 250-545-0771. The cost is $18 for chamber members and $28 for non-members.

Also on April 26, there will be an all-candidates forum at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre at 7 p.m.

“It’s something the theatre has done for all of the elections in recent memory,” said Pamela Burns Resch, performing arts executive director.

There will be no cost to attend the forum but donations will be sought for the children’s theatre fund.

The fund provides tickets to families that would otherwise be unable to attend performances.

There will also be a chance for residents of the Enderby area to hear from the candidates.

Members of the Enderby Chamber of Commerce will host a forum April 27 at 7 p.m. at the Enderby Seniors centre.
