Electoral approval has been met to move forward with the Greater Vernon Multi-Purpose Cultural Facility Loan authorization bylaw.
The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for the bylaw officially closed Monday, May 2, at 4 p.m.
The Regional District of North Okanagan estimated that the total number of qualified electors in the service area is 56,352 and that the receipt of elector response forms submitted by 10 per cent of that number, or 5,635 qualified electors, would be required to defeat the bylaw without an assent vote (referendum) being held.
The total number of elector response forms received by the deadline opposing the RDNO board of directors adopting the bylaw was 388.
The board can now adopt the bylaw which would authorize the RDNO to borrow up to $28 million to facilitate a portion of the funding required for the acquisition of lands and construction of a Greater Vernon Multi-Purpose Cultural Facility.
