The Funtastic Slo-Pitch Tournament and A&W Music Festival is just around the corner and lots is happening.
After a two year hiatus, the Funtastic board of directors is motivated to put on an event to celebrate the return of music festivals and sports tournaments. Facing hurdles along the way, the board is looking forward to being able to host Vernon’s No. 1 economic driver of the North Okanagan for the summer months and Western Canada’s largest slo-pitch/music festival.
The goal of the Funtastic Sports Society is to give back to the community through sport, and this is done by hosting an annual event. Funds raised at the event are given out by way of the Funtastic Sports Society Community Grant Program, and 2022 applications are now being accepted.
“Our mission is ‘Building a Better Community through Sport” and the Funtastic Sports Society proudly invites qualifying community groups to submit applications,” said society president Jamie Austin. “This year marks the 36th year that Funtastic has contributed back to the community through its donations and grant program.”
Since 1985, donations have totaled more than $2.1M. Since the inception of the Funtastic Community Investment Grant Program in 2009, more than $250,000 has been donated for financial support to non-profit sport, recreation, and community organizations of a sport nature serving the Greater Vernon region.
“Successful applicants benefit from the Community Grant program with an emphasis on projects that will continue to support the growth of sport and recreation in the region,” said Austin. “Funtastic is proud to be able to support local sports organizations through grants that cover such things as equipment and capital costs for sports related activities.”
The applications and criteria are available on the Funtastic website of http://funtasticsports.ca/about/community-grant/ Deadline for applications is Sunday, May 15.
Additional opportunities to support the grant program is to purchase a raffle ticket and 50/50 ticket sales that are on now with the draws taking place July 3.
Prizes for the raffle are: two ebikes, a stay and play at Silver Star Mountain, two inflatable paddle boards and a ball package including registration for Funtastic 2023.
