The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District has initiated a process to close Armstrong Elementary School.

Armstrong-Spallumcheen could have one less school this fall.

On Tuesday, North Okanagan-Shuswao trustees initiated a 60-day consultation process to close Armstrong Elementary School in September.

The board is also looking at converting Pleasant Valley Secondary School to Grades 8 to 12, with Len Wood and Highland Park being elementary schools.

Officials have stated that closures need to be considered because of tight financial resources and enrolment levels.

The board also voted to consider re-configuring Ranchero Elementary to a kindergarten to Grade 8 school and to complete a catchment area review of M.V. Beattie, Grindrod, and Ranchero schools.

The goal of the review is to "determine the most effective manner of reorganizing these schools in order to accommodate the future enrolment increases in the Enderby area," states the district.

Silver Creek Elementary could be closed and amalgamated with Salmon Arm West Elementary.
