Armstrong looks to lock in further funding

Already $25,000 richer from winning the B.C. part of the TSN Kraft Celebration Tour, the City of Armstrong is looking at winning some more cash.

The city is encouraging residents to take part in Healthy Families B.C.’s Walking Challenge, in which one community could win $60,000 to go towards walking trails.

“There will be five winning communities selected to win $10,000, and of those five another will be randomly drawn to win $50,000,” said Coun. Paul Britton, chairperson of the city’s community services committee.

“If the community gets behind this like Kraft, we could have a lot of excess money in our bank account.”

Sponsored by the provincial government’s Healthy Families B.C. initiative, the walking challenge is a chance for Armstrong and Spallumcheen residents to share walking tips, map out the best local routes, and celebrate the community.

To take part, and to enter the contest, go the webiste – www.healthyfamiliesbcwalkingchallenge.ca – and click on the “Find Your Community” button.

Select the community from the list. The more walking stories, videos, maps, and photos you share, the more chances the community has to win.

In each week of the contest, there will more than 30 prizes handed out from a random draw of participants who have entered at least one story, video, photograph or walking map on the website.

Six lucky people will win a weekend get-away for four to a fun B.C. vacation destination.

And the five communities with the most postings – one from each population-size category – will win $10,000 to upgrade a local walking trail.

One of those five will then win an additional $50,000 through the random draw.
