Armstrong surveys housing status

Armstrong is trying to ensure everyone has a place to call home.

Armstrong is trying to ensure everyone has a place to call home.

The city has launched phase two of its housing status survey.

“We want to make sure housing is available for all ages,” said Patti Ferguson, with the age-friendly community advisory committee.

“We want to identify what we have. The majority of rental accommodation is available for seniors so where is the housing for (other) adults? Where is the gap?”

In the survey, renters will be asked if they have had difficulty finding accommodation and if price, size or safety are the primary issues.

For those wanting to purchase a home, they will be asked if Armstrong has a suitable price range.

Questions will also be asked about a possible interest in alternate housing, such as co-operatives or boarding houses.

Coun. Ron O’Sullivan is confident the survey information will lead to a housing strategy.

“We can then talk to builders. Hopefully we can help a bit,” he said.

The survey is available at city hall, the Armstrong-Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce or the Chocoliro chocolate store.

“We want data from people in the community about how they find the housing situation,” said Ferguson.
