Arrest in parking meter destuction

About 113 parking meters have been broken into in the downtown area over the last several weeks

An arrest has been made after numerous parking meters were damaged in Vernon.

RCMP officers arrested a 34-year-old man as he was allegedly breaking into a parking meter on Centennial Drive and 25th Street Dec. 4 at 1 a.m.

About 113 parking meters have been broken into in the downtown area over the last several weeks. The total cost of the damage is more than $20 000.

The suspect will appear in court Monday.

Charges of theft under $5,000, Mmschief under $5,000 and possession of a coin-operated device breaking instrument have been recommended to Crown counsel.
