Ashes stolen from Vernon home returned

Public appeal seems to have worked as ashes are returned to back yard of a home in Vernon's Foothills subdivision

Ashes stolen from a Vernon Foothills home May 12 have been returned to the owners.

The victims phoned police shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

“The ashes were left either by the back door or by the back patio,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk Thursday.

Taken from the basement of a home in the 1400 block of Copper Mountain Court was a royal blue velour bag which contained the ashes of the victim’s mother.

Inside the bag was a box which contained the name of the deceased, and attached to the bag was a smaller mesh bag containing a wedding ring and band.

The victims made a public appeal through the RCMP to have the ashes returned.

A number of other items were also stolen during the break-and-enter.
