The Independent Investigation Office of British Columbia has launched an investigation after a man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries in Penticton.
According to the release from the IIO, on June 20, 2023, at 3:38 a.m., Penticton RCMP received a complaint of suspicious vehicles and people in the 100 block of Brooks Place.
Officers responded and found two suspects and vehicles, with both vehicles reportedly fleeing the scene.
The vehicles were then later spotted near Killarney Avenue and Forestbrook Drive before fleeing again.
Penticton officers followed, before one vehicle crashed on Penticton Avenue near Government Street.
The male driver was found at the crash scene suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to hospital.
No one else was involved in the crash and there were no other reported injuries.
The IIO is investigating the actions from the police in the incident.
Penticton RCMP is conducting a separate investigation into the initial complaint and subsequent crash.
As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO, no further information will be released by the RCMP.
