Election for chief and council runs March 29

Okanagan Indian Band members will have numerous choices when they head to the polls.

An election for chief and council will be held March 29 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Head of the Lake Hall. There are 33 candidates for the 10 councillor positions and three candidates for chief.

“OKIB members who would like more information are encouraged to contact Marcus Hadley, electoral officer at marcus.hadley@gmail.com, or 250-884-4703,” said Shaylen Smith, OKIB communications co-ordinator.

“An elector may vote by either requesting a mail-in ballot from the electoral officer and completing and delivering it before the election, or attending the election in person.”

The candidates for chief are Joey Jack, incumbent Byron Louis and former chief Dan Wilson.

Running for council are Jonathan Alexis, Reynolds Bonneau, Wilbur Bonneau, Cindy Brewer, Lyle Brewer, Val Chiba, June Cole, Dustin Goldwater, Lynn Gregoire, Terry Harris, Stephen Isaac, Tim Isaac, Garett Lawrence, Allan Louis, Blaine Louis, Dean Louis, Diane Louis, Jackson Louis, Machell Louis, Richard Louis, Sheldon Louis, Raymond Marchand, Shane Miller, Michael Ochoa, Guy Robins, Seraphine Robins, Jon Spotted Eagle, Marie Tonasket, Shawna Whitney, Harold Williams, Dan Wilson, Leland Wilson and William Wilson.
