UPDATE: April 4

Quick response by firefighters to a fully involved barn blaze on Hayman Road, Monday afternoon, protected property residents and farm animals alike.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to a report of the fire at approximately 2:15 p.m. Monday.

“The structure involved was a barn on the property with the residence in close proximity,” said Chad Gartrell, West Kelowna assistant fire chief, in a press release.

“The crews did a great job with a fast knock down of the fire to prevent it from spreading to the house however the barn is a total loss. Due to the amount of damage to the structure the cause will remain undetermined but is not suspicious in nature.”

The family was home at the time but did not suffer any injuries during this incident. There was a large population of farm animals at the residence that we can also say went unharmed.

“WKFR would like to thank the BC Ambulance service, RCMP, and BC Hydro for their assistance at this incident,” said Gartrell.

Two Engines, one water tender, one safety officer, and one command unit responded with a total of 12 firefighters to the scene.
