Bear spotted in Vernon’s East Hill neighbourhood

Officials are urging residents to take action to prevent this bear or other wild animals from visiting their yards.

Residents of a Vernon neighbourhood are being warned of an unwanted visitor.

Conservation officers and the RCMP have been trying to track down a bear that has been reported in the East Hill area.

“The bear has been seen several times on the weekend,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

The animal is described as being large, but there have been no conflicts with people or pets.

However, officials are urging residents to take action to prevent this bear or other wild animals from visiting their yards.

“Hide your garbage and bird feeders and keep them away,” said Molendyk, adding that bears are constantly looking for food sources.

“Bears are out and about.”
