Camps planned if strike continues

In the event that teacher job action is unresolved, Greater Vernon Recreation Services will offer camps.

In the event that teacher job action is unresolved before the scheduled start of classes, there are some options for working parents.

The hours of operation of Boys and Girls Club programs throughout the Okanagan will be extended for school age children and full-day programs will be offered.

Greater Vernon Recreation Services will also offer many of its summer camps.

In addition, Greater Vernon Recreation Services is partnering with the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre to provide several programs for children in Grades 1 through 5.

At the Kingfisher camp, for example, the kids can enjoy a day of outdoor play and experiential environmental education. They will have an opportunity to explore and learn about an interior cedar hemlock rainforest: the plants that grow there, local First Nation traditional ways of life and knowledge, and about the salmon that call the Shuswap River home.

The camps will run Monday  to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and transportation will be provided to and from activities.
