Cliff Avenue revitalization on schedule

Phase one water and storm mains have been installed

Enderby’s main street is ripped wide open, but work appears to be right on track.

Major construction along Cliff Avenue started April 4.

“Everything has come along nicely,” said Mayor Greg McCune.

Uneven sidewalks, aging road gutters and unhealthy trees will be replaced.  A new plaza, backlit pier gateway structures and new seating will go in.

Phase one water and storm mains have been installed, but the next component could create challenges as some of the existing sidewalks are attached to buildings.

“We want to make sure when we pull them out, we don’t pull out buildings,” said McCune.

After catch basins are installed, the contract will proceed with the road subgrade during the week of May 9 and curbs the week of May 16.

“So far, we are on schedule,” said Tate Bengtson, chief administrative officer.

Even with the road torn apart, residents are encouraged to visit the Cliff Avenue businesses.

“Front accesses will be maintained and most businesses also have rear accesses that front on to the city’s free parking lots,” said Bengtson.

The total project cost for Cliff Avenue is $1.8 million.
