Reports of a man passed out in a car resulted in Vernon RCMP laying drug charges against the individual.

Police received a report Thursday at 6:45 p.m. that a man was passed out in a white 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix by the Valley First Credit Union.

“Our officers located the car and when an officer tried to speak to the driver, he attempted to start the car and drive away,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “Our officer prevented him from leaving and the suspect was arrested for care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired by drug.”

While officers were dealing with the suspect around his arrest of impaired driving, a quantity of heroin and cocaine packaged for sale was located.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Coldstream man, is now facing charges of possession for the purpose for trafficking as well as the impaired driving charge.

He was taken into custody, then later released on a promise to appear in court.
