An Armstrong man has been given a conditional sentence for animal cruelty.

Gary Roberts was given a conditional sentence of nine months in Vernon Provincial Court Tuesday. Four months of the sentence is to be house arrest.

Roberts has also been banned from owning or caring for any animal for 20 years.

He was found guilty of counts of causing pain/suffering and failing to provide necessaries for an animal in connection with an incident in December 2014.

More than a dozen horses were seized at that time from an Armstrong home by the B.C. SPCA after they were found to be malnourished.

The remaining herd of horses, numbering close to 100, were ordered to be sold, which they were through an auction conducted by Valley Auction Ltd. in February 2015.
