The leader of the Conservative Party of BC is making a stop in Vernon Friday, July 7, as part of his 2023 Leader’s Tour.

Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad will hold a meet and greet at the Elks Lodge 45 (3103 30th St.) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Conservative Party of BC aims to lower taxes, balance the budget, expand natural resource development, scrap the carbon tax, reduce healthcare wait times and crack down on violent crime, the party said in a press release.

Anyone interested in the ideas of the Conservative Party and meeting Rustad are welcome to attend the event in Vernon.

Rustad, who was born and raised in Prince George, has served as MLA since 2005. He was re-elected as MLA of Nechako Lakes in 2020.

Rustad was named the leader of the Conservatives on March 31, succeeding Trevor Bolin, who decided to step into an interim leader role.

In a provincial byelection on June 24 in Langford — Juan de Fuca, Conservative Party of BC candidate Mike Harris came in second place behind NDP candidate Ravi Parmar with just under 20 per cent of the vote. The BC United candidate came in fourth place with just 8.6 per cent of the vote. The byelection followed the resignation of NDP Premier John Horgan.
