Vernon’s Jim Cotter will meet Kimberley’s Tom Buchy in tonight’s A final of the Canadian Direct Insurance B.C. Men’s Curling Championships

First rock will be thrown at 7:00 at the Vernon Curling Club with the winner advancing to Saturday’s playoff round.

The defending champion Cotter came from behind after an early hog-line infraction to edge Dean Joanisse of New Westminster 10-9 Thursday morning for his third straight victory. Cotter is supported by Ryan Kuhn, Tyrel Griffith and Rick Sawatsky.

Buchy, who played his junior curling in Vernon, has former local Dave Stephenson at third and a front end of Dave Toffolo and Darren Will.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Mark Longworth outlasted Wes Craig of Victoria 8-7 Thursday morning to even his record to 1-1 in the 16-team, triple-knockout affair.

Longworth was losing 1-0 after one end to Grant Dezura of Maple Ridge Thursday afternoon. Longworth is backed by his son, Michael, Jonathan Gardner and John Slattery.

The playdowns champion advances to the Tim Hortons Brier, Feb. 28-March 7 in Calgary.
