Council aims to silence humidifier noise

Lumby officials are trying to muffle a noise problem.

The White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee is investigating modifying the ducts at Pat Duke Arena to reduce the noise the humidifier creates.

“We’re trying to find out more information and if if there is any impact on the (duct) equipment itself,” said director Randal Ostafichuk.

The humidifier was installed in late 2012 and it immediately began creating noise challenges for neighbours, including a home 200  feet away.

“We’re trying to find the most cost-effective way to reduce the noise down to a tolerable level,” said Ostafichuk.

“We’ve been doing our best to deal with it.”

The 2014 budget included $5,000 for noise abatement but an additional $1,700 is needed to move ahead with the project.
