Council heads off to convention

Spallumcheen representatives will meet with four provincial ministers during this week’s Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Vancouver.

Mayor Will Hansma, councillors Dave Brew, Janice Brown and Christine Fraser and administrator Lynda Shykora will discuss issues pertinent to the township during short audiences with the ministers of transportation, community development, agriculture and forests.

The convention runs Tuesday to Friday.

“We will meet with the transportation, agriculture and forests ministers on Tuesday, and the community development minister on Thursday,” said Shykora.

In between, Spallumcheen officials will have a chance to talk to representatives from the Agricultural Land Commission on Wednesday.

Representatives from other North Okanagan municipalities will also attend the UBCM convention.

Contracts to be extended

Township of Spallumcheen staff have been directed unanimously by council to enter into contract extension negotiations with two people.

Staff have been directed to negotiate a five-year extension with Pat Ellis of K-9 Control for dog and large animal control in the township.

Council has also directed administration to extend a two-year contract extension with Leanne Robertson, who is the township’s bylaw enforcement officer.
