COVID-19 rules updated for Vernon students returning from spring break

School District 22 updated its communicable disease plan on March 19

With spring break coming to a close on Monday, the Vernon School District is informing students about the COVID-19 guidelines that will be in place upon their return to class.

The school district updated its communicable disease plan on March 19. Masks are no longer required in indoor school spaces, though students and staff can choose to wear one. According to federal travel requirements, those who have travelled outside of Canada must wear a mask for 14 days in public spaces.

School gatherings are still capped at 50 per cent capacity indoors until the PHO’s order on gatherings and events is lifted, which is expected to happen on April 8. Proof of vaccination is not required to attend school-led gatherings and events.

Though schools are asked to keep finding strategies to make extra space between students, classrooms are allowed to revert to pre-pandemic configurations, as long as they “best meet student needs and preferred educational approaches.”

Field trips will be permitted following the break, and visitors are once again allowed at schools. Schools can return to their sign-in/out routines and no longer need to keep a list of names and information for contact tracing.

Students, staff and parents are asked to continue with daily health checks and stay home if feeling unwell, and hand hygiene should continue to be practiced as well.
